Tolichowki fights mosquito menace

As soon as the sun sets, residents panic and start measures to check mosquitoes from invading their houses.

Hyderabad: Residents of the various colonies around Qila Golconda and Tolichowki areas are likely to start a campaign on the growing menace of mosquitoes. Residents of the Golconda and Tolichowki areas are contemplating starting a large scale campaign to attract the attention of the contesting candidates of Karwan constituency towards the growing menace of mosquitoes in surrounding areas.

As soon as the sun sets, residents panic and start measures to check mosquitoes from invading their houses.

They are forced to close windows and doors and adopt various measures to get rid of mosquitoes.

Risala Bazar, Ex-Servicemen colony, Naya Qilla, Reti Galli, Jinsi Bazar, Moti Darwaza of Qila Golconda, Al-Hasnath colony, Meraj colony, Shahjahan colony, Grammer School colony of Tolichowki, Samata colony and MD Lines, Second Lancers are the most affected areas.

A group of youth from Qilla Golconda decided to start a campaign.

Mohd Rafi Khan of Golconda, said, “Macharon se najaat nahin toh vote nahin’’ (No vote unless we are rid of mosquitoes). This time we decided to vote for those candidates who give us a firm assurance to eradicate this menace. We have already started a campaign on social media and are contemplating posters and banners highlighting the issue,” he said.

Replying to a question about what kind of remedy they were looking, he said, “Clean the water-bodies which are the main source of breeding of larvae, stop drainage water into ponds and maintain cleanliness in the area”.

According to him Shah Hatim Talab, Katora Houze, around the fort wall and Balkapur Nala at Hakimpet are the places where mosquitoes breed.

Ishaq Mansoor, a resident of Al-Hasnat colony, said that many youth had created videos and memes to draw the attention of public representatives and officials, but those had proved futile so far.

“This forced us to make vote a tool this time,” he said.

He said that whenever VIPs come to these areas, officials of GHMC measures to curb the menace by spraying and fogging.

“We never forget the days when the daughter of US President, Ivanka Trump, arrived in Hyderabad for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit last November. On Independence Day, we sighed with relief for a while, thanks to K Chandrashekar Rao’s visit because he choose to hoist the flag in Golconda Fort,” he said.
