I support #MeToo', says Ragini Dwivedi

Actress Neethu Shetty of 'Galipata' fame reiterates her stand with her post which reads: MeToo, #MeToo, #MeToo.

The #MeTooIndia movement is gaining momentum with several men being accused of inappropriate behaviour, sexual exploitation, and assault in various fields after Bollywood actress, Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment along with three others.

There has been enormous support for the movement from women from all walks of life, including a few Kannada actresses, who feel the victims need to be heard and understood.

Though a similar movement had taken off in the country after a series of complaints were made by Hollywood actresses against sexual abuse by producer Harvey Weinstein, it failed to sustain. It has, however, now revived following Tanushree’s complaint.

Actress Neethu Shetty of 'Galipata’ fame reiterates her stand with her post which reads: “MeToo, #MeToo, #MeToo. While going for my tuitions early in the morning, while riding my scooter, while I was in the playground, in the market, in the crowd, in public transport, at the dentist's clinic, from the mirror in the auto, subtly at the workplace... Yes, not every man is bad and even guys have been harassed... But the number of girls who are using the 'MeToo ' hashtag today is shocking. I am sorry for each one of us, who went through these experiences!!

She adds that a woman knows what is a good and bad touch like that of a tailor, dentist and so on. “Not everyone is bad and I do not want to put every men in that bracket, but unfortunately it has been happening, especially in the entertainment industry. In the past, we would do our work and silently suffer the harassment. Even aggressive flirting is no less a harassment, and men should know to step back. One of the most common complaints is about the film industry. But it happens everywhere, even with a woman wearing salwar kameez and working in an office,” says Neethu, stressing that it is most important to listen to the women finding the courage to step forward to recount their experiences.

Actress Ragini Dwivedi says, “It's time for the ones who have been oppressed, who feared society, who have been silenced and who have kept quiet, to come out and say #MeToo .Your courage will act as the catalyst for many to stand up for themselves. I too support the #MeTooIndia movement!”

Another actress on condition of anonymity says she has had to let go of good work opportunities due to the sexual harassment. “The movement should not be scuttled as it is giving many the courage to speak out and share their horrific experiences,” she concludes.
