Pollution checks on units in Dhulapally
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Medchal district collector to constitute a committee with the representatives of local authority and the environmental engineer to assess whether the chemical godowns and units located in Dhulapally area were causing pollution in the area.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice G. Ganga Rao, while dealing with a petition by G. Satish and two others, directed the collector to take appropriate action with regard to closure of the units based on the report of the committee.
Sarasani Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the petitioners, submitted that there were several godowns and chemical units functioning in the IDA, Dhulapally without permission and the authorities concerned have not taken any action against them except issuing show cause notices in May and July of 2015.
He said that these units were causing water and air pollution and also causing frequent fire accidents in the area.
S. Sriram, counsel appearing for the owners of chemical units and godowns, submitted that the authorities had without authorisation seized the godowns and units in 2016 without following the due procedure of law.
