Karnataka: PIL against Indira Canteens disposed of

The petition had sought directions to stop the canteen operation till valid licenses are obtained.

BENGALURU: The High Court on Tuesday disposed of a PIL filed against Indira Canteens, alleging that they were started without getting any licences from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India as mandated by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The petition had sought directions to stop the canteen operation till valid licenses are obtained. The BBMP submitted before the court that it has obtained necessary permission and displayed the certificates at all Indira Canteens. The court then disposed of the PIL.

Pesticide or cyanide, HC asks Mohan
The High Court on Tuesday sought to know from the prosecution whether the victim in cyanide Mohan Kumar’s case died due to pesticide or cyanide.

The convict, Mohan Kumar alias cyanide Mohan Kumar, who is sentenced to death in a rape and murder case, has been arguing before the High Court while claiming to be innocent.

The convict is sentenced to death by a lower court while holding him guilty of murder and other charges, citing that he killed the woman using cyanide.

Illegal slaughterhouses: commissioners appointed
The High Court has appointed two advocates as Court Commissioners to inspect alleged illegal slaughterhouses in the city. The court directed the police to provide suitable security to the two during the inspection.
