Chennai: Celebrating the World Post Day on October 9, which also marks the first day of the ongoing National postal week, the Tamil Nadu postal department on Tuesday, launched a mobile post office at St Thomas Mount head post office. The move is to meet the postal requirements of new settlements and to provide late evening booking facility to the public.
“It would be stationed at five different locations from 1 pm to 7.30 pm and would offer services including stamps sale, speed post and all other services except savings bank and postal life insurance,” an official said, adding that an interested person could get his “My Stamp” on paying Rs. 300 and submitting a photograph. Depending on the patronage and requirement, more such mobile post offices would be launched in future.
