Hyderabad: Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao, back at the job after a year-long hiatus, initiated a cleanliness drive from his residence at Pragathi Bhavan in an attempt to rouse the people to ensure cleanliness and dry conditions in their surroundings.
Mr Rao appealed to public representatives, officials and citizens to take part in a drive to prevent the spread of seasonal and vector-borne diseases. He drained stagnant water from containers and sprayed oil at the base of the water fountains.
“The government is implementing mass awareness drive on a war-footing to educate the people on seasonal diseases and help them take precautionary measures. The GHMC is taking care of sanitation in public spaces. Every citizen should take care of cleanliness in and around their houses. Domestic sanitation is very important in eradicating seasonal diseases,” Mr Rao said.
He asked people to clean water tanks, sumps, water drums, coolers, and water storage equipment. He directed mayor Bonthu Rammohan and GHMC officials to take up mass campaigns in educational institutions as well as in slums, residential colonies, and apartments.
Mr Rammohan inspected slums and colonies in Tarnaka and Lalapet, his deputy Baba Fasiuddin in Ramachandrapuram and Borabanda. GHMC commissioner D.S. Lokesh inspected Necklace Road and the Old City. Mr Sandeep Jha, additional commissioner (health) inspected the Bansilalpet basti dawakhana.
