Cops in Odisha offer free helmets
Bhubaneswar: After strong public protest against the newly-implemented Motor Vehicle Act 2019, the approach of the Odisha police in the state capital and Cuttack city towards traffic rule violators has evidently become softer.
The police has started providing free helmets to offenders at Kalpana Square here.
Sagarika Nath, deputy commissioner of police (DCP Traffic), and some celebrities were seen giving flowers, chocolates and leaflets to traffic rule-abiding commuters at Madhupatna Chhak in Cuttack as a part of the sensitisation drive.
Similarly, helmets were given to violators free of cost at Kalpana Chhak in Bhubaneswar. “We are conducting awareness drives at important junctions in the cities in the initial phase. Later, it will be expanded to other areas. The Act is not a revenue-generating exercise. Awareness and safety are our aim,” she said.
