Coimbatore: Boycott of lawyers in western districts total

They raised slogans condemning the transfer of Madras high court chief justice Vijaya K Tahilramani.

COIMBATORE: Lawyers boycotted the courts in Coimbatore district on Tuesday and staged protest condemning the transfer of Madras high court chief justice Ms VK Tahilramani.

As many as 3,000 lawyers working in Coimbatore district including Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Valparai, Sulur, Madhukkarai and Coimbatore boycotted court work on and staged a protest in front the court complex here.

They raised slogans condemning the transfer of Madras high court chief justice Vijaya K Tahilramani.

Recently the chief justice sent in her resignation to the president Ramnath Kovind after she was transferred to Meghalaya high court as per the Supreme Court collegium’s decision. Thailramani took the decision of resigning her job after her plea to reconsider its decision was rejected by the collegium.

Similar protests took place at Tirupur district where around 500 lawyers boycotted the court on Tuesday and staged a protest demanding the same in front of the district court complex at Kumaran road there, while the lawyers in Nilgiris district also boycotted courts on Tuesday and staged a protest extending their support for Madras High court chief justice Vijaya K Tahilramani.
