Telangana: Sudden rain gives relief to city

Thunderstorms generally occur when the day temperatures and relative humidity are high.

Hyderabad: A thunderstorm of a moderate intensity hit Hyderabad on Monday evening. Gusty winds accompanied by heavy rainfall were recorded in central and north-eastern parts of the city.

Heavy spell for a short duration was reported at Sardarmahal (35.5 mm), Bollarum (26.3 mm), Chandulal Baradari (17.3 mm), Nampally, Amberpet, Quthbullapur, Asmangad and Narayanguda.

The sudden change in weather conditions brought relief to the city that has been witnessing rise in day temperatures over the past few weeks. The south-west currents over Telangana state are currently week. Monday’s rain is attributed to a thunderstorm and not part of the monsoon.

Thunderstorms generally occur when the day temperatures and relative humidity are high. On Monday, the maximum temperature in the city was 35.7°, one of the hottest days in September so far.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed over the state. Rainfall was also scattered at isolated places.

The forecast for the state for the coming days is dry weather with no weather warnings. Hyderabad is likely to witness rain or thundershowers in the evenings or at nights.
