Amit Shah gives nod, Sreedharan Pillai may go for party revamp

State party chief is keen to see vice-president Sreesan being appointed general secretary.

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP president Amit Shah has given consent to his state party chief P. S. Sreedharan Pillai for a leadership revamp.

In all likelihood, Mr Pillai is expected to do it in a day or two. But with national elections around the corner, he may not ruffle many feathers.

He had met Mr Shah in New Delhi on Sunday, coinciding with the national executive, where he got the nod.

Ever since he took up the party reins on July 30, rumours were rife that he would go for a massive reshuffle.

But at the core committee meeting in Kochi last week, it was decided that a massive reshuffle will not go down well with the majority of the party supporters.

"Within a day or two, the party president will announce a party reshuffling. But he has been advised not to go for a major revamping by the national BJP leadership", said a former BJP state president.

A top BJP source also said Mr Pillai is keen to see vice president K.P. Sreesan being appointed as general secretary.

If Sreesan is being appointed, then in all likelihood one among the four general secretaries, A. N. Radhakrishnan will be vice-president.

The other three general secretaries are M. T. Ramesh, Sobha Surendran and K. Surendran.

Pillai has a huge task of steering the party towards the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
