21 parties lined up against BJP: Oommen Chandy

He said it's the first time 21 national parties joining hands against \"the fascist and communal\" BJP.

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy on Monday said the nationwide shutdown called by the party against high fuel taxes had united the opposition.

He said it's the first time 21 national parties joining hands against "the fascist and communal" BJP.

Mr Chandy, a member of the Congress Working Committee, was inaugurating the UDF's protest march in front of AG's Office here as part of the nationwide strike.

He said the united opposition had become a reality with 21 prominent parties in the country joining them.

“This is for the first time such a protest is being made against fascist BJP by all the opposition parties.," he said. "This will provide hope and excitement for people who believe in democracy and secularism." The senior leader also warned of intense protests against such actions, including more parties and organisations.

The two-time chief minister, who is now on a mission to revive the party in Andhra Pradesh, congratulated everyone who made the hartal a success.

KPCC president M. M. Hassan termed the dawn to dusk hartal a huge success. He said flood-affected areas were spared not to hamper relief operations there.

Meanwhile, KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheesan came under attack for criticising the hartal.

Youth Congress leaders led the attack on the social media saying he's not above the AICC president.
