Southern Railway organises heritage run
Loco Works, Perambur had revived the steam loco in the year 2010, after withdrawal from service in 1909.
Chennai: Southern Railway organized heritage run featuring world's oldest working steam locomotive EIR - 21 from Chennai Egmore to Kodambakkam on Sunday. 162-year-old steam locomotive carrying a single coach showcased railway heritage at the 6th heritage run of EIR - 21.
Vashishta Johri, general manager, southern railway, divisional managers, engineers and other railway officials graced the occasion during the run.
Loco Works, Perambur had revived the steam loco in the year 2010, after withdrawal from service in 1909. Undergoing heritage run yearly since its revival, the loco was exhibited at Jamalpur workshops and Howrah station for over 101 years. The EIR 21 is also known to adapt to modern day technologies such as GPS based speedometer.
