JD(S) may demand five BBMP standing committees: Mayoral poll
Bengaluru: The JD(S) is likely to bargain for five of the six most important standing committees in the BBMP, besides the post of Deputy Mayor, to continue its support to the Congress for the remaining tenure of the BBMP council.
The JD(S) also wants its corporators to be consulted while projects are being implemented.
Party state president Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, after meeting the BBMP corporators, told reporters that a final decision on its demands would be taken after consulting party national president Mr Deve Gowda. The JD(S) has been backing the Congress in the BMMP till now but if it changes sides and supports the BJP, the saffron party can come to power in the civic body.
Mr Kumaraswamy lamented that party corporators are fed up with the behaviour of the Congress in the last two years. Most of the city related programmes and projects were decided at the MLA and minister level and corporators had to take the blame for lapses in implementing the work.
“When Congress needed power in BBMP, they promised us everything. However, their behavior is unacceptable, our corporators were treated badly. Now, they are talking about our support for them in the mayoral poll. They think we don't have a choice but to back them. I have elicited the opinion of our corporators, we will take a final call after consulting Mr Deve Gowda,” he said.
