Hyderabad: Woman takes Cherlapalli Central Prison's DSP to task

Senior cop booked for outraging modesty'.

Hyderabad: The Kushaiguda police registered a case against the Deputy Superintendent of Cherlapalli Central Prison on Sunday for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman.

Inspector K. Chandra Shekar said that when the complainant visited the Central Prison on Friday for meeting her husband who was convicted in a murder case and is a life prisoner, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Chintala Dasharatam scolded her for violating rules.

The prison authorities allow women in the open hall during meets. The inspector said that when she met her husband, she hugged him with tears and warder Mohan Rao objected. “When an argument took place, both went to the DSP and the DSP warned her not to do such things inside the prison,” he said.

Meanwhile, DSP Dasharatam expressed doubts about their relationship and the lady showed documents. Later, she visited Kushaiguda police station and filed a complaint stating that the behaviour of the DSP was intended to outrage her modesty.

Based on the complaint police registered a case under Section 509 of IPC and is investigating the matter.

Dasharatham had faced similar cases earlier when a warder lodged a complaint to the SC Commission for insulting him by mentioning his caste. He was cautioned by a judge in Vikarabad district for not accepting a prisoner sent from Vikarabad.

Director General of Prisons Vinoy Kumar Singh said that after the allegations, the department took up an enquiry and preliminary reports proved that Dashar-atham was innocent.

“We are waiting for the final report. There are some groups in Cherlapalli Central Prison and DSP Dasharatham was acting strictly against bringing things like ganja and cigarettes into the jail for inmates. The other group targeted him and has been making allegations since a year. We will take stringent action against him if proved guilty,” the director said.
