Dams brimming, no early poll: Siddaramaiah

We effectively faced the drought last year, this year we have received good rains, people trust us.

Mysuru: With most reservoirs in the state steadily filling up and the prospect of a dry and drought-hit summer fading in the wake of heavy rains in the past two weeks, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday ruled out the possibility of advancing Assembly polls and asserted that they would be held as scheduled in April-May next year.

Speculative reports have been doing the rounds that the ruling Congress party was planning Assembly polls as early as December to avoid the bitterness of the electorate over a failed monsoon, which would peak in the summer months in April-May when the dams go dry.

“We effectively faced the drought last year, this year we have received good rains, people trust us. The polls will be held only next year, we are confident of winning a majority of the seats and coming back to power,” he asserted, while reacting to queries from mediapersons at Mysuru airport.
