Rs 490 crore for Pugalur barrage: M R Vijayabaskar

Govt’s nod for project across Cauvery.

KARUR: The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs 490 crore for establishing a barrage across river Cauvery at Pugalur in Karur district, according to State Transport Minister M R Vijayabaskar.

Participating in the inaugural function of the second Government exhibition here on Friday, Mr. Vijayabaskar also informed that the Government has allocated a sum of Rs 50 lakh for preparing a project report for the construction of similar barrages across the river Cauvery at Nerur and Kulithalai in Karur district.

He said that Tamil Nadu has received nine national awards out of 33 awards for implementing people welfare schemes in an effective manner. Inaugurating the exhibition, Kadambur Raju, State Information and Public Relations minister, said the Government exhibitions are receiving overwhelming response among the people.

He said the Government has increased the Journalists monthly pension from RS 8,000 to RS 10,000 and will establish a Journalists Welfare Board.

Earlier, Karur district collector T. Anbazhagan welcomed the gathering while I&PR department's director P. Sankar proposed a vote of thanks.
