Flood relief collection centres in Thiruvananthapuram

The city corporation\'s 24/7 flood relief collection centre which was launched on Friday is functioning in full swing at the main centre.

Thiruvananthapuram: Flood relief collection centre was opened at Bharat Bhavan by Kerala Youth Welfare Board on Saturday.

People donated drinking water bottles, biscuits, rusk, baby food and clothes. A collection centre started functioning at the Government Women College where volunteers packed stuff for the people in relief camps.

The centre functionaries have appealed for drinking water, rice, pulses, dry fruits, biscuits, salt, tea, sugar, rusk, baby food and coconut. Bread, bun, fruits and other perishable items should be avoided.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan appealed to the people to donate generously to agencies which are collecting food, clothes, baby food, medicines, drinking water for people affected by floods in various parts of the state.

The health department is also stocking medicines for supply to the relief camps across the state. Priority is being given for the patients, elderly people, children and pregnant women who are in relief camps.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapruam city and various parts of district experienced very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

Thiruvananthapuram city recorded 10 cm rainfall. Other areas of the district like Neyyattinkara received 7 cm, Nedumangad and Varkala 3 cm each.
