3 more die in rain havoc in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: With the rivers in spate and low-lying areas inundated, more people sought refuge in relief camps with the number of inmates rising to 37,409 in the district. As many as 11,056 families are living in 287 camps.
The death toll in the district touched 14 with three more deaths reported on Saturday. Two drowned while one died when a tree fell on him. The two were identified as Libeesh, 32, son of Karuvandiyil Balan, and Aneesh, 28, son of Puthanpurayil Nanu, both of Memunda, Vadakara.
A bike rider was killed when a tree collapsed on him near Kallayi bridge. He was identified as K.P. Muhammed Salu, 52, of Francis road. His daughter Nitha was admitted to Beach General Hospital here with minor injuries.
The district collector ordered departmental action against 15 officers who failed to hand over vehicles for relief activities and did not turn up for work on Saturday as demanded by the district administration.
Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao also urged the public and NGOs to cooperate with the district administration in relief activities. Many camps did not have enough relief materials. A collection centre has been opened at the collectorate to receive materials.
