Trifurcation: Higher Education Minister GT Devegowda meets varsity officials

He said that an expert committee will be formed by end of current academic year to decide on UVCE jurisdiction for academic year 2019-20.

Bengaluru: After months of confusion over the jurisdiction of 100-year-old University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) and claims on it by Bangalore University (BU) and Bengaluru Central University (BCU), Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda on Friday clarified that the institute will continue to be with the parent BU.

He said that an expert committee will be formed by the end of the current academic year to decide on UVCE jurisdiction for the year 2019-20.

He was holding a review meeting with the officials of Bengaluru University (BU), Bengaluru Central University (BCU) and Bengaluru North University (BNU) to resolve post-trifurcation issues.

At the meeting, the officials decided to share the space and revenues of the 115-seater Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, which is rented out for public events. The Physics and Natural Science Blocks, except for some rooms on the ground floor where confidential data and documents are kept, will be handed over to BCU from the parent BU, a higher education department official said.

BU officials said that staff transfer documents have been submitted to overcome staff shortage at the newly formed BCU and BNU.

Last week, the minister had directed officials of all three varsities to resolve all issues within 15 days.
