Vijayawada: A girl threatened Penamaluru police by attempting to commit suicide by drinking toilet cleaner. The incident happened on Wednesday night where K. Sandhya Rani, a third year B.tech student in Gitam University tried to commit suicide demanding that the police convince her lover K. Karthik to marry her. According to Penamaluru police, K. Karthik, a CA student from Krishna Lanka met K. Sandhya Rani of Vishakhapatnam on Facebook and they became friends.
The bond between them turned to love and both decided to marry. Karthik shifted the girl's family to Vijayawada and they hired a house in Kanuru. Dispute arose when the family of Karthik denied the marriage and the girl complained to Penamaluru police. Karthik filed a counter complaint with Krishna Lanka police that Sandhya Rani deceived him and spent Rs. 4 lakhs for the treatment of her mother. The boys parents alleged that several criminal cases were pending against the girls’ parents and they hid them.
Penamaluru police counselled both families on Wednesday and the boy agreed to marry Sandhya. But, the boys family again denied the marriage and the girl tried to end her life in front of the police station. “The girl took a disinfectant cleaner and threatened to drink it. We have shifted her to the hospital. She is out of danger now. We have filed a case and will take up the requisite action,” says Penamaluru CI, K. Damodar.
