Telangana: Civil supplies commissioner tells millers to return rice
Millers had sought a one-month extension.
Hyderabad: The government has set a deadline of August 31 for rice millers to return customised milling rice stocks for the public distribution system.
Civil supplies commissioner C.V. Anand said the millers had returned 54 per cent stocks. Millers had sought a one-month extension. “We will consider extension of deadline by a week or two after August 31,” Mr Anand said.
The government has handed over 37.16 lakh metric tonnes of paddy procured from farmers in the rabi season for milling to millers. Of this, millers have to return 25.27 lakh metric tonnes of rice.
“Millers are returning 20,000 metric tonnes of rice per day. They can meet the deadline if they return 70,000 metric tonnes per day in the remaining 16 days,” he said.
