Tamil Nadu yet to decide on no-detention policy, says KA Sengottaiyan
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government is yet to take a call on whether to continue no-detention policy up to class 8 or conduct the exams from class 5, according to school education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan.
While addressing the private school managements in the city on Thursday, he said, "Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisami and myself will take a decision after due consideration."
The state has opposed the reduction in no detention policy at the Central Advisory Board of Education meeting last year. After the objections, the Central government left with the implementation to the states.
Recently, the Central government approved the bill which intends to reduce the no detention from class 8 to class 5. In this background, the minister's statement assumes significance.
"We are planning to provide the WiFi connection to schools with some restrictions. We also plan to provide smart classrooms to 3,000 schools," he said.
He further said the government is planning to increase the examination centres for class 10 and 12 to avoid the travel and tension for the students. Sengottaiyan also distributed the recognition orders to over 100 private schools pending DTCP approvals.
