Chennai: Tamil Nadu to get rains for the next two days and the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in some areas during evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 36 and 27 deg Celsius said regional meteorological department here in a weather bulletin. In the past 24 hours, delta districts received good rainfall with Thanjavur and Papanasam receiving more than 10-centimetre rainfall on Wednesday.
Tiruvannamalai, Ariyalur, Salem, Yercaud, Karur, Virudachalam and Cuddalore district received rainfall up to 6 centimetres, the weather office said. Though TN has received its normal rainfall during this southwest monsoon deficient rainfall has been recorded in Virudhunagar and Tuticorin districts.
Meanwhile, public works department on Thursday released 7,000 cusecs of water from Mettur and Cauvery water is likely to reach delta districts by Saturday. The inflow to the Mettur dam from Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar dams is around 7,100 cusecs of water and of this 7,000 cusecs of water is released for irrigation and drinking water purpose. Mettur has been receiving a steady inflow of water from Karnataka only during the past 10 days and if more than 10,000 cusecs are released it will benefit the dry delta terrain, PWD sources said.
