Tamil Nadu train robbery: Eye on rail staff
Chennai: A day after the TN train robbery, in which Rs 5.8 crore cash was taken from a money wagon hired by RBI to move old and soiled notes, investigators have started collecting information on rail officials in Erode who had allotted the wagon for the transfer of Rs 342 crore.
The money ‘car’, which was attached to the Salem-Chennai express train, was probably broken into while the train was parked at Erode station, experts have said. Sleuths are also probing the banks and the agency which loaded the money in the train.
The forensic team, which examined the cash wagon also found bloodstains on the side of the hole in the roof made by the robbers. Cops suspect at least 6 thieves may have hauled the cash bag away, which could’ve weighed over a 100 kilos.
