Andhra Pradesh government to acquire 5,295 acres for VCIC

Administration has fixed Rs 20 lakh and Rs 18 lakh as compensation per acre in Achuthuram, Nakkapalli mandals.

Visakhapatnam: Government is all set to acquire around 5,295 acres in Achuthuram and Nakkapalli mandals for the much talked Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) in Vizag district. District administration had fixed Rs 20 lakh and Rs 18lakh as compensation per acre in these two mandals and sent the proposals to the state government. District administration is now awaiting a GO in this regard to start the acquisition.

Of the total 6,986 acres, 1,414 acres come under Achyuthapuram and remaining are in Nakapalli mandal. “Government Lands survey is over and award enquiry is on full swing. Consultant of APIIC has given the land use pattern, discussed with district officials. GO is due from government accepting Rs 20 lakh per acre for patta lands,” said a senior official talking about the Achyuthapuram cluster.

In Nakkapalli cluster APIIC requested for 6,787.70 acres of which 3,985 are patta lands, 3,802 belonged to the government. Among the government lands, 1,110.75 acres are freehold lands. ADB which is the nodal agency of VCIC had submitted the final report of 366-page Conceptual Development Plan to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of the Union government in August last year.

ADB in its report felt that while economic growth in Andhra Pradesh has matched the national growth rate over the last decade, the recent division of the state posed significant challenges to growth because it excludes industrial activity, including information technology activities, around Hyderabad. As part of the VCIC strategy, four industrial nodes were identified. In the final plan, the Machilipatnam node has been renamed as Gannavaram-Kankipadu that comes under the new capital region. Other nodes are Yerpedu–Srikalahasthi, Kakinada, and Visakhapatnam. Pharmaceuticals, auto and auto components, textiles, metallurgy, chemicals and petrochemicals, electronics and food processing are the key industries that can be established in the VCIC region.
