Warangal to promote cycling for daily commute
Warangal: In its bid to promote cycling for daily commute in Warangal, Tricity Riders organised an awareness rally in the city on Sunday. Warangal police commissioner Tarun Joshi too took part in the rally by riding a bicycle with other participants.
Significantly, six members of Hyderabad Cycling Group rode their bicycles overnight from Hyderabad to Warangal for taking part in the awareness rally.
Despite rain, the cycle rally started off from Warangal Police Commissionerate. It passed through KU Cross, Peddammagadda, Mulugu Road, Pochamma Maidan and Venkatrama Junction before reaching Qila Warangal.
Speaking on the occasion, commissioner Tarun Joshi said cycling is a good mode of transport for daily activities within the city. "This will reduce air and noise pollution, apart from protecting environment. In addition, our health will also improve, and we will be physically fit,” he remarked
The Hyderabad Cycling Group (HCG) announced that a cycling league will be organised between June 21 and July 21 in which cyclists from across the country will participate, including 18 from Warangal. HCG founding president N. Ravinder said about 10,000 group members cycle regularly in Hyderabad city. He urged men, women and youth of Warangal city too to cycle regularly.
Cycle Rally coordinator Sravanti Reddy said that cycling helps exercise most muscles of the body. It keeps one physically and mentally fit. A person can also steer clear of cardiovascular problems by cycling, she remarked.
Central zone in-charge DCP Pushpa and Hanmakonda ACP Jitender Reddy were among those present at the rally.
