National Lok Adalat settles record number of cases on Saturday
Hyderabad: Saturday’s National Lok Adalat saw a record 56,000 cases being disposed of across the State.
Of them, around 49,000 cases were pending and included 47,550 criminal and 1450 civil cases while most others were pre-litigation cases.
The day’s highest was recorded in Ranga Reddy district with 7,540 cases disposed of. In Telangana High Court, three benches conducted the Lok Adalat through the virtual mode. They settled 203 cases and `2.24 crore was awarded as compensation, benefitting about 350 persons in the cases of motor accident claims and CMA-workmen compensation. High Court judges, Justice Ponugoti Naveen Rao, Justice Sri Devi and Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy presided over the National Lok Adalat benches.
Murali Mohan, Secretary of Legal Services Authority of City Civil Courts said that a total of 634 civil pending cases were settled in all civil courts in Hyderabad and they awarded `24, 23,35,000 to the beneficiaries as compensation. In a case imposing fine on a bank for its negligence in keeping its employees certificates in safe custody, Suma Latha, chief judge of City Civil Court ordered ICICI Bank to ` 1.15 lakh to Srinija, who was as employee of the bank, which had failed to give its employees educational certificates ,when she was leaving the job.
