Each mandal to have two urban health centres
Vijayawada: Home minister Mekathoti Sucharita on Sunday said that the YSR Congress government is giving priority to public health, which is evidenced by the revolutionary changes that are being brought in the health sector.
She was speaking after laying a foundation stone for Dr. YSR Urban Health Centre at Gorantla in Guntur on Sunday in the presence of Guntur mayor Kavati Siva Naga Manohar Naidu and GMC commissioner Challa Anuradha.
Sucharitha said that they were establishing two health centres in each mandal in order to strengthen the sector and ensure quality medical services to the poor. Dr. YSR Urban Health Centres that are coming across the state are part of this endeavour, she said, adding that Guntur would have 16 such centres. She said the government has allocated Rs 80 lakh for each centre and has also sanctioned funds for renovation and repairs of the existing health centres in the city.
She said that the local secretariat staff and health centre ANMs would work together to tackle epidemics like Covid-19 and spread awareness among the public.
The minister said that the state government was taking the education sector to newer levels.
Manohar Naidu said that there are already 13 health centres in Guntur and each was provided Rs 10 lakh for undertaking repair works. He said that the tender process has been completed. He said that sites have been identified for the new centres in Guntur East, West and Prathipadu constituencies. The 1o-bedded centres will have infrastructure facilities to conduct 38 types of blood tests. The mayor stated that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been paying attention to welfare programmes and public health despite the financial crisis.
