Warangal: Graduate prisoners praised

“Circumstances force a person to commit crimes. Prisons in Telangana have provided an opportunity for people to correct themselves.

Warangal: As many as 30 inmates of the Warangal Central Prison who completed their graduation by attending classes in the prison were awarded degrees on Wednesday.

GWMC mayor Gunda Prakash Rao presented the certificates and lauded the efforts of the Telangana prisons department.

Mr Gunda Prakash said, “The Telangana prisons department is setting an example by providing welfare and correctional services to prisoners. Several representatives from countries like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh gave visited Telangana to study how the prisons are run here.”

“Circumstances force a person to commit crimes. Prisons in Telangana have provided an opportunity for people to correct themselves. Inmates must utilise the facilities provided under the ‘Unnati’ scheme and build a new life.”

Deputy superintendent of the Warangal Central Prison, D. Kalidasu said, “Due to the efforts put by the jails department to correct criminals, the number of people coming back to jail has decreased considerably.”

District child welfare committee chairman Mandala Parushuramulu said, “Even though they are in jail, prisoners must work towards developing their lives financially and academically.”

Local corporator Elagam Leelavathi, Jailor Sakru Naik, Rama Krishna Reddy, deputy jailor Ramesh, M. Srinivas, Citizen Forum State Committee member G. Raj Kumar, social worker S. Praveen Kumar, T. Purnachander Rao were present among others.
