Kadapa: Anganwadi workers demand better pay
Kadapa: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers staged a Maha Dharna at Kadapa collectorate on Wednesday, demanding to confirm them as government employees.
They also demanded the Modi and YSRC governments to keep up promises made before the elections.
The district union secretary N. Laxmidevi has been alleging that YSRC leaders were coming to anganwadi centres and harassing the staff. “The union will not tolerate this,” she cautioned.
She also claimed that the Modi government policies were encouraging private agencies to hand over the anganwadi system, and added that the unions would react strongly if it happened.
Ms Laxmidevi said that governments were using anganwadi workers as bonded labourers and were not paying even minimum wages.
Demanding job security for the anganwadi workers in the district, she also asked for the payment of pending room rents and travelling, dearness allowances to the workers.
Union district president Rajakulayamma, CITU president G. Chandrasekhar and other leaders were present.
