Hyderabad: Injection borewells at 160 flood-prone areas

A senior GHMC official said that the corporation has already identified 160 locations that are generally prone to severe flooding.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is contemplating fixing injection borewells at designated locations to save the city from inundation.

It has decided to seek help from JNTU experts. The injection borewells will also help in recharging groundwater levels.

A senior GHMC official said that the corporation has already identified 160 locations that are generally prone to severe flooding. He said these were public places where the construction of injection borewells is feasible.

The corporation has also identified residential areas to construct injection borewells so as to recharge groundwater levels, which have depleted by over 1,500 feet. The official said that the civic body will focus on Serilingampally, especially areas like Kakatiya Hills, where groundwater levels have depleted by over 2000 feet. Emphasis will be laid on Mega Hills across the 100 feet road.
