Ambulance, car collide at Kollam bypass, three hurt
KOLLAM: Three people got injured in an accident on the National Highway bypass here on Wednesday morning involving an ambulance and a car. The ambulance caught fire after its oxygen cylinder exploded under the impact.
The two collided around 5 am at Kallumthazham junction. The ambulance was carrying a patient from Kottarakkara taluk hospital to the Kollam district hospital.
The car came from the Thiruvananthapu-ram side. The ambulance overturned in the collision and caught fire.
A police team that rushed to the spot rescued the passengers, including the driver of the ambulance before it was completely gutted in the fire. The ambulance was charred entirely by the time firefighters reached the spot.
The patient inside the ambulance, Raheela, hailing from Kottarakkara, her husband Saifudeen, and her relatives escaped with minor injuries. The passengers in the car were unhurt.
