Botanical garden revamped

As part of the renovation, 12 acres of the 274 acres land have been renovated with modern facilities.

Hyderabad: The new Eco Tourism Park at Botanical Gardens, Kondapur, is all set to enthrall residents of the Hitec City.

The renovation, taken up at a cost of Rs 5 crore, will be inaugurated by minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday.

As part of the renovation, 12 acres of the 274 acres land have been renovated with modern facilities. The garden will have Nakshatra Vanam, Rasi Vanam and Navagraha Vanam, with display boards, to educate and propagate its importance to the visitors. Corporate adventure games viz. Zip line, commando net, commando tower, archery, rifle shooting and related equipment have been provided for the enjoyment of children and young adults. For energy conservation, grid connected solar power plant of 30 KW was developed by using the roof top space of interpretation and environmental education centres. Battery operated vehicle facility will be provided for old and physically challenged people .

Fiber mural models of elephants, giraffes, Indian gaur (Bison), spotted deer family and Black buck and trees with various birds are also displayed . It is aided with an interpretation centre to conduct meetings, debates on various subjects by students, employees, industrial sector and other organisations with a seating capacity of 100 to 150.

An attractive Gazebo, with seating facilities and fenced party zone, with a beautiful shed for enjoying in groups by families, students, employees and others has been developed. Boating and log hut, tented cottages, ethnic cottages /tree cottages on payment basis will be available.

Another update to the park is a display of 60 important herbal and medicinal species in a garden, with display boards, depicting the importance and uses of the plants in daily life. Butterfly Park, good and rare collection of attractive xerophytic plants in the cactus garden etc. would be a real treat to the eyes.

To inculcate knowledge among youth, an environmental education centre has been constructed with 3D diorama model, depicting the forest atmosphere with wild animals and birds, and has interesting information on the uses of forests. Aided with a 3-km pathway for morning and evening walkers, an indoor gym with modern equipment in a tortoise-shaped enclosure and also an open outdoor gym are added attractions.
