Bengaluru: Five policemen including a woman PSI were suspended over the theft of a double-barrel rifle from the KS Layout police station.
The suspended policemen are PSI Suma and constables Anand Kolekar, Basavaraj, Paramanand Koti and Ashok Biradar, all attached to the KS Layout police station. According to a senior police officer, PSI Suma was in charge of the single and double barrel rifles, and guns surrendered by the public during the election code of conduct ahead of the recent assembly election.
After the election, when the public approached the police to get their arms back, one double barrel rifle was missing. A departmental inquiry was ordered and during the investigation, it was found that the four constables stole the rifle when Suma was not in the station and hid it somewhere.
The constables allegedly confessed to the crime and said that they committed the crime to bring a bad name to the Inspector and the PSI and to get them suspended.
The four constables have been booked for theft, while PSI Suma has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
