Will adhere to Act for lands, says Andhra Pradesh government

The bench directed the state government to place all the notifications issued for the acquisition of lands in the state.

Hyderabad: In a significant development in the ongoing legal dispute with regard to acquisition of land for various projects in the state as well the construction of new capital, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday assured the Hyderabad High Court that it will not go ahead with the land acquisition proceedings hereafter without completing the survey for extending resettlement and rehabilitation benefits to the project affected families under the Land Acquisition Act 2013.

Mr Dammalapati Srinivas, advocate general of AP, submitted before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T. Rajani that the special chief secretary on July 5, 2017, issued a memo to the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration and district collectors to follow the procedure prescribed under Section 16 to 19 of Act 2013 before issuing the notification for acquiring the lands.

The bench, while dealing with a PIL by the AP Agricultural Workers Union, represented by its secretary Venkateswarlu, said that it will monitor the rehabilitation issue.

The bench directed the state government to place all the notifications issued for the acquisition of lands in the state since from January 1, 2014, on which date.
