WCC shocked, set to fight till justice served

The involvement of actor Dileep in the actor assault case and his arrest have shocked the women film fraternity.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The involvement of actor Dileep in the actor assault case and his arrest have shocked the women film fraternity. Ms Beena Paul, film editor a member of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), an association of women in Malayalam film industry, said the WCC would stand behind the actress. “We are pained that a person from the industry was involved in the incident. We want justice to be met any cost. We trust the court and also the police investigation team,” she said.

She complimented the actress for boldly pursuing the case. The WCC was formed on May 18 in the wake of the assault case and had pledged to work for equal opportunity and dignity of women employees in the industry. Manju Warrier, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Anjali Menon, Rima Kallingal, Sajitha Madathil, Vidhu Vincent and Deedi Damodaran are the other members of the collective.

The women team had also met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking his intervention on the issues being faced by women in the film field. AMMA had faced the public wrath for its callous attitude towards the actress even after Remya Nambeesan raised her colleague’s plight. The WCC had approached State Women’s Commission chairperson M. C. Josephine seeking justice and against naming the actress by celebrities. The SWC also took cases against those who named her in public.
