Rajya Sabha members put to use funds better than LS MPs

Over the last years, LS members have utilised 72.99 percent of the MP Local Area Development Fund, against 82.38 percent by RS members.

Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha members from the state have outperformed their Lok Sabha members in the matter of utilising development funds. Over the last years, Lok Sabha members have utilised 72.99 per cent of the MP Local Area Development Fund, as against 82.38 per cent by their Rajya Sabha counterparts. Last year, Lok Sabha, members spent only 53.35 per cent of funds, an no one has spent any money at all this year.

Zaheerabad MP B.B. Patil stood in the last position, utilising 60 per cent of his MPLAD funds. Mr G. Vinod, Mr K. Visweswar Reddy, Mr Ch. Mallareddy and six others have utilised more than 80 per cent. Rajya Sabha members K. Kesava Rao, the late Palvai Govardhan Reddy, T. Devender Goud and M.A. Khan spent more than 80 per cent funds while Mr Anand Bhaskar and Mr D. Srinivas shared the joint last position with 60 per cent fund utilisation.

Between 2014 and 2017, Lok Sabha members were entitled to Rs 297.50 crore of which the Centre released Rs 172.50 crore. The funds available including interest and distribution fund from predecessors is Rs 202.12 crore. The MPs together have spent Rs 169.60 crore. The TS government has prepared a report on MPLADS for the state-level monitoring committee meeting to be held on July 15.

Chevella and Zaheerabad constituencies received Rs 5 crore each, Bhongir, Karimnagar, Malkajgiri and Peddapalli Rs 7.50 crore each, Adilabad, Khammam, Medak and Secunderabad Rs 10 crore each, Hyderabad, Mahbubabad, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool. Nizamabad and Warangal Rs 10 crore each and Nalgonda constituency received '17.50 crore.

The RS members from the state were to receive Rs 190 crore but got Rs 130 crore. According to data, Rs 135.19 crore is available with district authorities including interest. The RS members have proposed works costing Rs 147.25 crore, of which works worth '121.39 crore has been sanctioned. But the actual expenditure was Rs 99.99 crore. Rajya Sabha members D. Srinivas and V. Lakshmikanta Rao were elected in 2016-17 while Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao opted for TS in 2016-17.
