Chennai: The detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 45-km elevated expressway connecting Madhya Kailash to the heritage town of Mamallapuram is being readied and the project will be implemented along with the second phase of the metro rail project, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced on Monday.

Responding to the issue raised in the Assembly, he said the DPR is being prepared and the project would gain momentum once the second phase of metro rail work begins. The project was announced by late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

The elevated expressway connects Madhya Kailash, Siruseri and Mamallapuram. Raising the issue DMK member Aravind Rajesh sought to know when the elevated expressway project will take off.

Earlier, replying to a special calling attention motion moved by former DMK Minister K. N. Nehru, the CM said an assistance of '50,000 would be given to Arulananth and Kanagaraj, who sustained injuries in a blast.

Mr. Palaniswami also announced an assistance of Rs 25,000 to Balasubramanian, who sustained minor injuries in the incident. He also said that he had directed the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The House witnessed noisy scenes for some time after Speaker P. Dhanapal declined to grant permission to DMK whip Chakrapani to speak on a specific issue during the Zero Hour. “What happens outside (the Assembly House) should stay outside. I decide what should be discussed in the Assembly,” Mr. Dhanapal said. This nevertheless triggered a protest from the opposition DMK, which insisted that Mr. Chakrapani be allowed to speak.
