J&K Deputy CM asks devotees to continue with Amarnath yatra

Nirmal Singh said appealed people not to be deterred by the militant attack that left seven pilgrims dead in Anantnag on Monday.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Tuesday asked the pilgrims from across the country to continue with their plans of Amarnath pilgrimage, saying the state government was alert to the situation.

"I want to assure the nation that Jammu and Kashmir government is alert. We are not taking any chances," Singh said.

He appealed to people not to be deterred by the militant attack that left seven pilgrims dead in Anantnag on Monday night.

Singh said the government will investigate as to how the attack on the bus carrying pilgrims took place.

Questions have been raised on how the bus carrying the pilgrims from Baltal to Jammu was allowed to ply on road after the 7 pm deadline set by the security officials.

The bus was not part of the official Amarnath yatra convoy.
