Illegal tankers in Telangana to face closure

Action will also be initiated against the driver and owner of the tanker.

Hyderabad: The TS Pollution Control Board directed the closure of Ortin Laboratories from where a tanker was caught illegally trying to dispose off chemical effluents into the Musi near Nagole.

A PCB official informed that the effluents in the tanker were highly toxic with the total dissolved salts and chemical oxygen demand of over 1 lakh. “The effluent is under treatment at Jeedimetla effluent treatment plant,” said PCB senior scientist N. Raveendhar.

Though the company had not defaulted before, the tanker driver admitted to have dumped effluents into Musi on previous occasions. Action will also be initiated against the driver and owner of the tanker.

Twelve industries have been ordered so far this year for violating pollution norms, including eight pharmaceutical firms. The PCB has nabbed five tankers carrying effluents so far.
