Ramya's accident case: We promise fastest trial, says Hyderabad police chief
Hyderabad: City police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy on Sunday said that the drunk driving accident case in which eight-year-old P, Ramya and her uncle died, would be taken to the fast- track court and the police would ensure maximum punishment to the suspect.
He said given the evidence, the suspect should get 10 years of imprisonment. Unlike other accident cases, the police has booked a case of culpable homicide against K. Shravil, since he was drunk and driving without a licence.
“Taking cognisance of the tragic circumstances, a strong case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the accused driver who was driving the vehicle without licence and after consuming alcohol. He was immediately arrested and sent to remand and is now in prison,” said Mr Reddy.
“All necessary evidences, including the evidence of consumption of alcohol, CCTV footage etc., have been collected from the scene to prove the guilt of the accused in the court of law.”
He continued: “A requisition has also been filed in court to take the suspect in police custody and to conduct a Test Identification Parade (TIP),” the commissioner said.
The senior official assured Ramya’s family saying justice will be done. “We assure the family that all possible measures shall be taken to get the accused convicted by chargesheeting him at the earliest and fast-tracking the trial,” he added.
Terming the death of Ramya as heart-breaking, the commissioner said the police would strive towards ending the menace of drunk driving. “Measures will be intensified to prevent such incidents in future in coordination with all the departments,” he said.
