Wealth from waste project in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: The Kerala State Suchitwa Mission is all set to introduce an innovative model to popularise waste management among youngsters of the state by forming waste management clubs across the state and training them to convert waste into wealth by producing manure from biodegradable waste.
The pilot project will be launched in Kozhikode. The Malabar initiative is in association with Uduppi-based firm Uduppy Energy Management Private Limited along with the district panchayath, municipal corporation and Mahatma Women Charitable Trust.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran will inaugurate the office of the firm at Moozhikkal on Wednesday.
Aiming at the progress of agricultural sector of Kerala, more than 30,000 youngsters will be trained in the first segment. Corporation, municipality and panchayath will cooperate in the distribution of equipments to produce zero waste bio fertilizers. According to officials, the firm will provide 50 per cent discount to a family for buying equipments and collect the fertilizer turned waste from them later.
This manure will be used in the vegetable farm initiated with the cooperation of the Agriculture Department. The company assured that a share of the respective farm will be provided to respective member.
