Village stay: Karnataka CM issues 10-point advisory to DCs

He has made it clear he wants the local administration to be uptodate on the problems of the area to help him address them effectively.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who is scheduled to begin his “gram vastavya” or village stays later this month, has issued 13-point guidelines to all district administrations to make sure there are no hiccups.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who intends to stay in villages overnight, has said that the local school, where he will interact with the people, should have large grounds to accommodate them all and the venues be chosen in consultation with the local legislator and district in-charge minister. Going by his office, at least 5,000 people are expected to participate in the programme in every district.

The Chief Minister has also given specific instructions on the location of the stage where he will receive petitions from the public and has ordered the formation of official teams under the local assistant commissioners to collect them.

He has made it clear he wants the local administration to be uptodate on the problems of the area to help him address them effectively. His other requirements include a documentary by the local administration for viewing by the public and farmers, and issue of invitations to agriculture experts, who can guide the local farmers in their farming operations.

He has also insisted that the district administration improve the condition of toilets, power supply and revenue in schools and villages that he intends to visit.

The police have been, meanwhile, asked to make sure that the roads are clear during the Chief Minister's travel to villages and officials accompanying him have been told to travel in one bus.

The Chief Minister's revival of his village stays to connect with the people at the grassroots has drawn ridicule from the state BJP, which contends that they will be meaningless in the face of the drought that the people are living with every day in the districts.
