Thiruvananthapuram: Boys bag top 10 ranks in state engineering entrance
Thiruvananthapuram: Boys have bagged all the top 10 ranks in the Kerala engineering entrance examinations, the results of which were announced by Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel on Monday. In pharmacy, four girls and six boys topped, while in architecture engineering, five boys and five girls won the ten top ranks.
In engineering, Vishnu Vinod from Idukki came first, A. Gautham Govind from Kottayam second and Aqyib Nawaz from Kottyam third. The others in the top ten are Sanjay Sukumaran from Kasargod (4th), Mevit Mathew from Alappuzha (5th), Alphin Davis Tomy from Ernakulam (6th), Niranjan J. Nair from Kozhikode (7th), Sourav Sukumaran from Kasargod (8th), Satdhruti Paul (9th) and Anirudha Kulkarani (10th). The fourth-ranked Sanjay Sukumaran and eighth-ranked Sourav Sukumaran are twins.
P. Adwaith Krishna of Kollam came first and Midhun V. Jai of Kottayam second in the scheduled caste category while L. Sukanya of Kasargod came first in the scheduled tribe category.
In the architecture stream, Alice Maria Chungath of Thrissur got the first rank, Ansha Mathew of Kannur second, Gaurav R. Chandran, a Keralite now settled in Vadodara, third and Praveen of Malappuram fourth.
In pharmacy, Naveen Vincent of Kollam came first, M.K. Nidha Nisma of Malappuram second, K. Rohith of Malappuram third and Mohammed Irshad of Malappuram fourth. Out of 73,437 candidates who qualified, 45,597 have been included in the engineering rank list. Of the 56, 318 candidates who qualified in pharmacy, 39,912 are included in the engineering rank list. As many as 3,825 candidates have been included in architecture based on NATA scores.
Of the 100 top rank-holders in the engineering rank list, 89 are boys and 11 girls. The highest number of students in the top 100 ranks (18) come from Kozhikode district, followed by Ernakulam and Kottayam with 15 each. Sixty-six of them made it in the first appearance and 34 in the second.
The rank list for engineering was prepared by giving equal weightage to the marks obtained in the entrance test and in mathematics, physics and chemistry /computer science / biotechnology /biology put together in the Plus-Two examinations.
For the engineering rank list, equal weightage was given to the marks obtained in the engineering entrance (paper I & paper II put together) and the grade/marks obtained for mathematics, physics and chemistry/computer science/biotechnology/biology put together in the second year of the qualifying examination (Plus-Two or equivalent), after effecting the standardisation procedure as described in clause 9.7.4 (b)(iii) of the prospectus for KEAM 2019.
Some of the boards/authorities did not provide the statistical parameters/data essential for the process of standardisation of marks of those candidates who studied for the qualifying examination under that stream. The marks of candidates from such boards have been standardised based on the criteria decided upon by the committee and the decision is final and binding on the applicant.
Marks obtained by the candidate in the engineering entrance (paper I & II put together) is computed out of 300 and added to the total standardised marks of mathematics, physics and chemistry/computer science/ biotechnology/biology as the case may be in the final year of the qualifying examination computed out of 300, both corrected to four places of decimals. The rank list for engineering courses is then prepared based on the total marks obtained out of 600, computed as above.
The rank list for admission to architecture (B.Arch) course has been prepared by giving equal weightage to the score obtained in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture and to the marks/grades obtained in qualifying examination by the candidates as envisaged in clause 9.7.4 (c) of the prospectus.
The rank list for admission to pharmacy (B.Pharm) course has been prepared on the basis of the index marks calculated as per clause 9.7.4(f) of the prospectus for KEAM 2019 based on the marks obtained by a candidate in paper I (physics & chemistry) of the engineering entrance examination.
