Hyderabad: Telangana State Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has reportedly dropped the idea of constructing the new secretariat building at Bison Polo Ground and decided to construct a new secretariat on the site of the old one.
Telangana state Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi told Andhra Pradesh officials that there is some urgency to complete the process of handing over of secretariat buildings within a week.
Once the AP government hands over the secretariat buildings it is using, the Telangana state government will shift its secretariat departments into those buildings.
After that the Telangana state government will begin construction of the new secretariat.
Mr Rao had planned to construct the secretariat at Bison Polo Ground, which led to a controversy. The Centre delayed handing over the ground to the state government. Besides, there was stiff opposition from environmentalists and citizens’ groups.
Against this backdrop, Mr Rao dropped the proposal of constructing the secretariat at Bison Polo Ground and opted to redevelop the old secretariat premises. It has thus become necessary for the AP government to hand over the buildings it is using quickly.
