Debt-ridden bizman petitions President for mercy killing

Also owing to expenses of treatment of his ailing daughter, he has not been able pay EMI from August 2017.

Mysuru: Owing to difficulty in repayment of housing loan after sustaining a loss in his business owing to demonetisation, H Shekar, owner of a home product company from Manuganahalli village of Hunsur taluk, has written to President Ramnath Kovind seeking permission for mercy killing of himself and his family on grounds that he was unable to endure harassment by representatives of a private bank.

In his letter to Mr Kovind, Mr Shekar claimed that he owns a home product company where they manufacture parathas. He has employed over 20 employees. He earned over Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per day and had a business of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per month and earned a profit of Rs 40,0000 per month.

He had taken housing loan of Rs 22,89,221 on 30 November 2015 and he was regularly paying the EMIs. But after demonetisation he suffered a loss of over Rs 4 Crores.

Also owing to expenses of treatment of his ailing daughter, he has not been able pay EMI from August 2017.

Unable to bear pressure from the private money lenders his family attempted suicide on 10 February 2017 and again he had to lend Rs 1.5 lakh for the treatment expenses.

And recently on 30 January 2019, the field officer and the manager of the bank from where he has taken housing loan, abused him verbally near his house infront of his villagers and threatened to auction his house and sell it to recover the loan amount and threatened to send him to jail.

And again when he visited the bank to pay Rs 1,70,000 and sought three months' time to clear the pending EMI amount, another field officer denied to take that amount and sent him off from the bank.

So owing to fear of losing home and unable to bear the harassment from the officers of the bank, they are now seeking permission for mercy killing and also action against the bank officers, he has stated in his letter.

Mr Shekar has marked the copies of the letter to Sub inspector of Hunsur police station, Hunsur Tahsildar, SP and DC of Mysuru, Mysuru regional commissioner, MLA of Hunsur, Mysuru district minister, Chief Minister, Home Minister, assembly speaker, Governor, Chief Justice of Karnataka high court, Chairperson of state Human Rights Commission.
