Chennai: Cop saves girl from fall under train

The RPF officer who was present at the platform, rushed to help her.

Chennai: A police officer jumped into action to save a young girl’s life after she was almost dragged under a moving MTC train while trying to board it. CCTV footage of the incident, which took place at the Mambalam railway station in the city on Monday, showed the girl slipping and nearly falling into the gap between the platform and the train.

The RPF officer who was present at the platform, rushed to help her. Quick action without second thinking, the officer was able to pull her to safety. The officer has been identified as Jambulingam of the Railway Protection Force. The 15-year-old girl was attempting to board the suburban train heading towards Tambaram, sources said. Both managed to escape without any serious injuries.

“The train was already moving when the girl was attempting to board the train and slipped. There have been multiple incidents where fatal accidents happen in situations like this, when someone falls between the train and the platform, said a police officer. However, the timely action of the officer saved the young girl. The girl was given first aid and later sent home,” police said.
