Srinagar: An Army jawan was killed and another wounded after the Pakistani troops targeted Indian forward positions with small arms and mortar fire in Shahpur sector of the LoC in J&K’s Poonch district on Monay, officials said. They said that the “unprovoked” ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army evoked “stro-ng and befitting” response from the Indian troops. “The Pakistan Army targeted the Indian posts in Shahpur sector with small arms and mortars without any reason or provocation.
The own jawans defending the (de facto) border retaliated by using same calibre weapons. The exchange of fire was underway as reports last came in,” said an official in the winter capital. He added that two jawans who suffered serious injuries in the Pakistani firing were evacuated to a nearby military hospital. However, one among them, identified as Javed Iqbal in an unformed report, later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, a BSF jawan was injured in an explosion near the LoC in Rajouri district.
