Fate of Jayanagar to be decided today

Polling will start at 7 am in the 216 polling booths in the constituency and end by 6 pm.

Bengaluru: Voting in Jayanagar assembly constituency in the heart of Bengaluru, which was deferred by the Election Commission due to the death of BJP candidate B.N. Vijay Kumar, will be held on Monday.

Polling will start at 7 am in the 216 polling booths in the constituency and end by 6 pm. It will be a straight fight between the BJP and Congress with the ruling party keen on wresting the seat from the saffron party which is determined to increase its numbers in the Assembly. The BJP has fielded Mr B.N. Prahalad, brother of Vijay Kumar while Ms Sowmya Reddy, daughter of former home minister Mr Ramalinga Reddy is the Congress candidate. The JD(S) candidate Kalegowda has opted out of the contest with the party deciding to back the Congress.

Election commission officials are taking all steps for the smooth conduct of the polls with paramilitary forces deployed to guard 66 polling booths and the security of the remaining booths assigned to the city police. Six ACPs, two DCPs, ten KSRP and CAR platoons will be manning the booths.

Among the VIPs who are expected to cast their votes are Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actress Bharathi, co-founder of Infosys Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy, Justice Venugopal Gowda and writer Bargur Ramachandrappa among others.
