Guwahati: Bogged down by hate messages circulated on social media after gruesome lynching incident of Karbi Anglong, Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia here on Sunday said that police have arrested 16 people in connection with the lynching of two Guwahati-based youths by villagers who mistook them to be child abductors.
Two youths Nilutpal Das and Abhijit Nath were battered to death by a group of villagers on suspicion of being child lifters on Friday night. The incident has created anger among the college students and youths who on Sunday came out in large number on the streets of Guwahati demanding justice in the lynching case. The huge turn out, mostly of students were carrying placards condemning the incident.
